Lately monochrome has been absolutely everywhere, including on this here blog and personally I can’t get enough. The chic, versatile trend is easy to play up or down depending on your preferences, and for those not inclined to don tonnes of colour, it’s perfect. Whether you need an evening outfit for an upcoming event, or just need some extra ideas on looks for everyday, then you’re sure to find a monochrome ensemble today that fits the occasion. On recently browsing monochrome on the high street I came across tonnes of great affordable pieces at New Look and so I thought I’d put them together into some simple yet chic outfits that might take your fancy- and they’re all under £45. Bargain.
First off I’ve gone with a huge street style trend at the moment, and it’s a midi skirt with a cropped jumper. Ladies wanting to show a little skin without flashing the whole midriff can rest assured that this look will only show the tiniest slither of stomach, so there’s no need to swerve the biscuit tin days in advance. This gorgeous jumper will also look amazing with high waisted jeans- stick with the monochrome trend and opt for a black pair, or if you’re more confident, white. The streamlined bottom half in this skirt will flatter and balance out the stripes on the top half. What’s not to love? This little lot comes in at just £27.98 which is an utter steal for such an on-trend ensemble. You can pick up the jumper here, and the skirt here.
Next up is a simple, but classic, dress and heels look that’s all set for a night out. Chunky platforms are a big style must right now and great if you want height without the pain of stilettos. The high heels add a bit of drama to this on-trend chevron patterned frock but these dresses also look great dressed down with hi-tops and even beanies for that laidback model off-duty look. This look will only set you back £42.98 which you’ll more than get your cost-per-wear out of. You can pick up the dress here, and the heels here.
Today’s next look incorporates two trends other than monochrome, and any ensemble that can tick off more than one trend box is a winner in my book. Not only have we got a peplum going on, which as we know has become a mega trend lately, but there’s also 2013’s ‘it’ trouser- the striped jean. Striped jeans are a huge hit right now with the likes of fashion heroines like Jessie J rocking them on stage. Now we have our chance to grab a pair and these statement trousers deserve to be paired with another structured piece like this peplum top. If you’d prefer to play down the stripes then any slouchy black tee will do the trick, but for me, this top really adds drama to these already impressive pants. You can get your hands on this celeb-inspired look for just £39.98 so you don’t need the superstar wage to rock the trend. You can pick up the top here, and the trousers here.
Finally, today’s last look is a daytime look that’s fun for a day out shopping with friends. If you’re heading out in the evening, just take your heels with you to instantly take this look from day to night, it’s that simple. If simplicity is more your kind of style, then lose the necklace for a more understated take on the look. Leather look skirts are another big trend right now as they give any black ensemble a pop of welcome texture and you’ll more than get your wear out of the skirt with tonnes of other outfits. Floaty tops like this will be your best friend come summer, and even the statement necklace will jazz up outfits that need an update or injection of interest. All the pieces work amazingly on their own, but together I think they really up the monochrome ante and this looks far more luxe than the £30.97 it’ll cost you. You can pick up the top here, the necklace here and the skirt here.
