Hello and welcome to today’s instalment of She Hearts Sunday. We’ve had a week of miserable weather and freezing temperatures, so hibernation has been high on everyone’s to-do lists. I, for one, have been relishing every moment I can grab with tote socks and a cosy hot chocolate, and I discovered all of today’s hearts from the comfort of my sofa. There’s even more of an excuse for you not to move from the comfort of the indoors, who says you can’t learn something from being a couch potato?
My first heart today is the HBO TV programme Girls, which I found out about via Estée of Essie Button. Estée mentioned her love for this series in her latest non-beauty favourites video on Youtube, and since then I’ve been hooked. Girls is what I would consider an antidote to Sex and the City. While I love me some SATC, it just isn’t exactly true to life and real people’s (particularly young people’s) experiences. Girls though, I find, fuses the ever-popular backdrop of the Big Apple with Peep Show/Inbetweeners style awkwardness that is both familiar and funny. The girls’ intertwining relationships and sexual escapades are still akin to the old Sex and the City style formula, but it’s the comedy teamed with a tad more realism that makes this one of my new favourite things to watch on the daily.
Girls Series 1 will be available on DVD soon, and being as I’m late to the party, the second season will also be launching on TV in mid-January. Need another reason to get into it?
She Hearts…Outfit Inspiration
Being as oversized jumpers and woolly everything have been the order of the week, my stylish side has been somewhat oppressed. That’s why I love Barbara of The Persian Babe‘s latest lookbook video, which features offbeat eveningwear suitable for the holiday season. Outfit inspiration, for me, is always welcome and I love mixing things up, so I’m looking forward to trying out some of these wardrobe combinations over the Christmas period. My favourite of these outfits is number three, a print mix ensemble that incorporates Versace-esque graphics and stripes, definitely giving this one a go!
She Hearts…DIY Christmas Gifts
While the bulk of my Christmas shopping is over, I always love gift guides and present ideas this time of year. I particularly love the idea of making something one-of-a-kind and handmade for your loved ones, so when I saw this biscotti tutorial from Megan Isobel, I just had to check it out. Baking is one of my favourite things to do on a miserable afternoon and I’m sure I share that hobby with a lot of you, so check out Megan’s recipe and tutorial and make your gifts a little more meaningful this season!
That’s it for this week’s She Hearts Sunday. Let me know what you’ve been loving this week by leaving me a comment or tweeting me @MillieDelacoe. Until next time…
