It will come as no surprise to those of you who have followed me from my old blog that this week’s impulse purchases are both from River Island. River Island is my go-to high street shop for the latest looks and you can always count on them to have trends on the rails straight off the catwalk. This week my spending wasn’t quite so bad as due to my birthday a couple of weeks ago I accumulated a fair few vouchers for this shop in particular, and so a serious dent was made in the price tag. You’ve got to love birthdays!
If you don’t already know me, there are probably two things you should know before I go on: I’m a little print obsessed, and (well, this ties in with the first point) I LOVE polka dots. You can imagine why it was then that I fell head over heels in love with this silk dress. Love at first sight is all I have to say.
Of course the gorgeous print sucked me in from the very beginning, it consists of large white polka dots on navy, with bright red cartoon lips scattered around inside some of the dots. Just amazing. I haven’t seen anything like this on the high street before and I just thought it was super different. The only thing that I was dubious about was the shape, as on the hanger it looked like a shapeless shift. When I tried it on though I found it to be one of the most flattering dresses I have EVER, yes EVER worn!
The tie detail and ruching on one side means that you pull in the dress and tie it at the back so that it’s tight to your bust to show off your figure, but then the fabric gently glides down and out to a skirt. It somehow showcases your curves but also magically skims problem areas too. It’s perfection. I think it’s worth the £35 price tag, but then again I was willing to pay that as I wasn’t REALLY paying for it (gotta love vouchers!) What do you think of it guys? I’m going to be pairing it with my red wedge (River Island!) sandals come summer for days out, though it could be easily dressed up for a special occasion. I think this is a great one for a wedding as it looks even more expensive in person and you could pair it with a navy blazer to up the nautical ante, or layer it over with a red cardigan or cropped jacket to pick up the red lip accents. One thing’s for sure, day or night I’ll be wearing a red lip with this, how could you not!?
On the way to the till I picked up these cute little earrings too for only £3. Now that my hair is longer I’m enjoying wearing it up a lot more in soft chignons etc. so I have the opportunity to show off some nice long earrings that are of course, super cute! Anything heart shaped is a winner in my book. What do we think ladies?
So that’s the impulse haul for this week, let me know what you think by commenting or as usual tweeting me @MillieDelacoe. Until next time…
