Welcome to March ladies and gentlemen! We’re slowly creeping towards summer, and we’ve just enjoyed one of the most fashionable months of the fashion calendar, but that doesn’t mean that this month has nothing to offer. In fact, I realised when flicking through my diary that’s there’s so many fab and fashionable goings on this month that I just had to share them with you all; beauty releases, exhibitions, movies and…MAD MEN. So, get your diary out, grab a pen and take notes because there’s plenty here to keep every fashionista busy for a whole month!
1st March (today)
Katy Perry’s Interview issue hits the shops
So you may have seen this image doing the rounds, and of course it’s the lovely K-Pez rocking a striking look on the cover of Interview magazine. The good news is that it hits U.S news stands today but the great thing is that there are plenty of larger newsagents, like WHSmith, particularly here in London that stock all the latest American magazines too, so we don’t have to miss out! Keep your eyes peeled for this issue as I can guarantee it’ll be snapped up pretty sharpish.
2 & 3rd March
Vintage Kilo Sale
There isn’t a woman I know who doesn’t love a bit of vintage, and where better to find a vintage bargain than the Vintage Kilo Sale. It’s £1 to get in for the whole weekend and then £15 per kilo of clothes, which works out at about 4-5 pieces. According to the Vintage Guide to London the stock will be replenished all weekend and there’ll even be vintage jewellery available from 50p! So if your wardrobe needs a touch of old world fabulousness stop by from tomorrow. It’s open from 4-7pm on Friday and then 11-4 on Saturday so don’t miss out. You can find the Vintage Kilo Sale at York Hall 5-15 Old Ford Rd, E2 9PJ, the nearest tube is Bethnal Green.
DKNY Sweet Delicious collection hits Debenhams
Listen up fragrance fans because this one’s for you! This month exclusively at Debenhams DKNY are releasing their Sweet Delicious special edition perfumes. From the 4th March you can get your hands on the cute springy scents Tart Key Lime (green) which is Fabulous magazine’s recommendation, Creamy Meringue (yellow) or the one I have my eye on Pink Macaroon (pink, obviously) for £34 each. My question is, could this collection be any cuter? It has a dessert theme, it’s in this season’s pastel colours and check out the gorgeous campaign video, if this doesn’t make you want to test the scents instore I don’t know what will. I’m going to check them out the second they hit stores as I’m desperate to get the pink one, so I’ll let you know what I think, I may end up getting a completely different one if I like the scent better so who knows!
9, 12 & 15th March
Designer at Debenhams Fashion Shows
Whether you got to witness some catwalk action at London Fashion Week or not, in three cities around Britain this month you can check out the Designer at Debenhams fashion shows. The fashion shows will be hosted by a different designer in each city; Ben de Lisi in Debenhams Manchester on the 9th, John Rocha in Debenhams Oxford Street on the 12th and Julien Macdonald in Debenhams Cardiff on the 15th March. In Manchester and Cardiff there’ll be two shows, one at 5.30pm and then one at 6.30pm and in London the two shows will begin at 12pm and 1pm. Don’t miss out, there’s even the opportunity to meet the designers after the show and there’ll be free beauty makeovers and special offers throughout the store to coincide with the event. I know where I’ll be on the 12th!
My Week With Marilyn is released on DVD
Being possibly the biggest Marilyn fan on the planet, you can understand why this film made my top 5 when I saw it in cinemas before Christmas. Now that it’s coming to DVD it’s one I’ll definitely be getting for my collection and I highly recommend it. Although ladies will love it no question, I was surprised that both me and my friend’s boyfriends also really enjoyed this film so it’s a good night in with the boyfriend movie aswell as a night in with the girls!
Michelle Williams does an amazing job of capturing the spirit of Marilyn in her performance, we all commented that we forgot it wasn’t really Marilyn acting up on the screen. It’s a truly beautiful film and one that you will definitely watch again and again. Technically it’s a solid investment purchase, and you can’t argue with that. P.S new Burberry recruit Eddie Redmayne is not just pretty on the Frow, you can swoon over him as the super lovely male lead Colin Clark in this film too!
Revlon Lip Butters hit the UK
If you’re a Youtube-a-holic, beauty fanatic, reader or writer of beauty reviews then you’ll already be familiar with Revlon lip butters, or heard of them at least. If not, here’s a quick summary, they’re the new best lip product to practically ever exist, or so we’ve been told by every beauty guru ever to live. According to my favourite Youtubers they look like a lipstick but they’re more like a balm, pigmented but not too bright, sheer, but still with colour, won’t make your lips peel, wear well and they have the cutest names like Strawberry Shortcake and Cherry Tart. So if all those factors equal a product you want to try then you can do what I’m doing and run down to Boots on the 14th to snap them up.
From the amount of online coverage they’ve had I don’t know if they’ll be on the stands for long! There’s a variety of colours just like any other lipstick range and they’ve been selling out all over the U.S since they released maybe because the amazing Emma Stone is advertising them (LOVE her). I haven’t tried them yet either so I’m excited to see if they live up to all the claims and will probably get a few in some pinky hues ready for spring/summer. If you want to know more, you can type ‘Revlon lip butters’ into Youtube and you will be inundated with reviews to check out.
Don’t forget the most important day in March, it’s all about your Mum! If you need help with some present ideas, never fear! I’m putting together an extra special Mother’s Day gift guide for the blog, and it will be a naff-free zone. I promise there’ll only be things on the list that I would or will be getting for my own Mum and no crumby suggestions! Of course there are plenty of great product releases this month such as the perfume and the My Week With Marilyn DVD both of which will make great gifts and which will no doubt make it into the guide aswell, so there are some quick tips for you already. Stay tuned for that post in the next week or so…
Mad Men series 5 begins
I’m so excited about this, I can barely breathe. Mad Men is my boyfriend and I’s absolute favourite thing to watch on the box and if you haven’t seen it, you are sincerely missing out in every sense of the word. Drama, history, fashion, glamour there are so many reasons to get into it especially if you’re A. into fashion and/or vintage like me, or into B. design and the world of advertising which is my boyfriend’s thing. The boxsets are widely available if you want to catch up, and we even borrowed a few box sets from our local library so check if yours has it! This is THE date I’m most excited about this month and the first episode of the new series is a super special 2 hours long (it’s like a dream)! In other Mad Men news I’ll be posting up soon about Banana Republic’s second collab with costume designer Janie Bryant too which coincides with the new series. Hello shopping.
28th March-1st July
Christian Louboutin exhibition at the Design Museum London
Any exhibition that incorporates shoes would be on my must-see list this month, but the fact that it’s a Louboutin exhibition, ooh la la. This exciting exhibition looks into the inspiration and design that goes into the fabulous heels that us fashionistas all covet. Everything you could possibly want to know about the Louboutin brand is revealed, it’s a fashion, design and history lesson all rolled into one. For those who want to drag their boyfriends along, (probably me) the rest of the Design Museum is boy-friendly so they can always wander off while we stare longingly at our dream shoes. No matter what you put on your feet that day you’re going to walk out feeling miffed, unless of course you go in Louboutins, in which case lucky you! You can find the Design Museum at Shad Thames, Greater London, SE1 2YD. The nearest tubes are Tower Hill and London Bridge.
That’s it for my round up of this month, as promised there’ll be a Mother’s Day gift guide up soon as well as a look at the Mad Men for Banana Republic collection and I’ll let you know what I think of all the products set for release. I’ve even started a special February Favourites post all about my best product discoveries which should be up this weekend. What are you looking forward to this month, have I missed out any dates you think I’d love and/or will you get involved in any of the events from this post? I’d love to know, so tweet me or leave me a comment below. Until next time…
