Behind the scenes time again? That’s right! This week I was invited to Voucher Codes’ swap shop and boy was it a good’un. In fact, it’s made me hell bent on finding more good swap shops in London, for everyone to attend. If you’re thinking, ‘excuse me, I don’t know what a swap shop is’ then allow me to explain. A swap shop is an event where you and the other attendees bring along your unwanted clothes, and then swap, simple as that. Usually the event organiser will take the clothes from you in exchange for points or stamps, and will get busy laying out the clothes like a shop floor, then it’s time to shop!
I used to swap shop all the time at university, when once a month the swap shop would open in a cafe near my house. I loved it, because it gave you the chance to bag some new items, while clearing out your wardrobe at the same time- one person’s trash is another person’s treasure! It gives you the same retail therapy satisfaction, without the spending guilt, as you might get from thrifting.
So back to the event! Voucher Codes ran their swap shop in Soho on Monday, and it was full to the brim with bloggers who, like me brought along their finest unwanted garments. If you want to see what I took (plus footage from inside the event and what I took home), stay tuned for my video later today!
The first room we entered had a DIY table to customise your own tights, a marvellous sweet and cake table, drinks galore and the all-important counters necessary to swap all your goods for stamps. In this particular swap shop each item was worth between 1-3 stamps depending on condition and original ticket price. 3 stamps was for designer prices and brand spanking new with ticket pieces, 2 was high street pieces that were new or as good as, and one was for pieces that were still in great condition, but may have been worn once or came from Primark or H&M compared to say, Zara or Topshop. I had 12 stamps, so I got stuck right in! The organisers arranged all the clothes in a room upstairs.
I met some lovely fellow bloggers, of course my blogging friend Jade was there, as well as a new acquaintance to me, the gorgeous Laura. I also caught up with the lovely UO team, Claire, Kerry and Chloe. It was great to meet some bloggers whose sites I frequent, and to find out they’re as lovely in real life. I caught up with Stephanie from Faiiint (one of my all time fave blogs) and Lucy Rance of Lulu Trixabelle whose channel is amazing (her car boot hauls are the bomb!)
The drinks and err…chicken were flowing, and it was a great buzzing atmosphere, plus we got to take home a barrage of blogger booty. I couldn’t believe someone had donated each of the things I picked- I’d pay good money for each piece if I saw it in stores. I hope they feel the same about my pieces!
Let me know if you know of any great swap shops either in London or elsewhere, and let me know the best thing you’ve found there, I’d love to know! Be sure to check back for my haul and vlog today and I’ll see you all very soon!
Until next time…
