Welcome Baz lovers! Topshop’s latest collection ‘Deadly Lovers’ is inspired by the great director and his incredible movie Romeo + Juliet, which is an absolute classic and a visual treat to say the least. This nineties heavy collection is teeming with print, mesh, studs and all that good stuff that also crops up in the movie from time to time. It’s all singing, all dancing, like Baz’s movie itself, and this small capsule collection is not for the faint-hearted.
Seriously a la mode at the moment are round specs like these, and they hark back to the nineties in a big way, without being too much of an investment. At just £12 these can change the way your outfit looks and give it a bit of edge. If you want in on the style without breaking the bank, these are for you.
While the other pieces may be inspired by the film, this piece could quite literally have come out of it. Dressing like one of the actual characters may not be on everyone’s to-do list, but I think this £26 shirt would look awesome with a spiked necklace and ripped shorts to really up the grungy ante.
This biker dress is right up my alley with the zip and button detailing. This is toughness in clothing form, and I love the idea of topping off this dress with the sunglasses above and some equally tough Dr Martens. For a real Baz Lurhamm look, mesh or fishnet tights would look crazy good with this £68 piece.
Next up is something that is arguably a little easier to work into your wardrobe. This True Love jumper is super Romeo + Juliet with the graphic heart and dollar signs. You could team this with skater skirts, your favourite skinnies, boots and sandals. At £45 this jumper isn’t going to break the bank and you could even go really Romeo + Juliet and use it as a beach cover up.
Next up is definitely the most risque piece, but it could be made much more demure. This mesh studded corset is super gorgeous as well as fitting the nineties theme perfectly. You could throw a denim shirt open over this so you feel a little less exposed, but could also wear it as a bralet to do some crazy cool layering. The mesh is 100% Romeo + Juliet and at £40, how can you say no?
Lastly today are a super flattering pair of shorts that I think every girl needs in her wardrobe. These £34 ‘boy’ shorts are a little longer than your average and have rips all the way down the front for extra laidback cool. Juxtaposing more prim pieces with these would add a nice Romeo + Juliet twist, but scuffed up band tees and wishy-washy tie-dye pieces will look just as good.
