Get the Look: Spots + Stripes

They’re timeless prints that you can never go wrong with, and which you’ll literally wear forever. That’s right, spots and stripes are always here to stay, whether you’re working monochrome, going for a pattern clash, or if nautical is your kind of thing. Spring/summer is the perfect time to add some pattern into your wardrobe, so if you need a fresh injection of fashion investments to see you through, look no further. If you need more inspiration, check out my latest midweek moodboard, which is focused on this exact theme, just click here to get inspired! This season, it’s all about keeping your spots and stripes monochrome, with splashes of red for an even more high-impact look, so here’s the best high-street pieces to work the trend with.

Today’s first piece is this gorgeous vintage-inspired striped dress from Primark. Coming in at £20 this is an incredibly well-priced piece (as you’d expect from Primark), but looks far more high end than it is. The criss cross back adds an extra interesting detail, while the figure flattering, fifties style shape will be perfect for women of all shapes and sizes. This is going to look amazing in summer with colour pop red wedges and a vintage-style red lip to really up the retro factor. This dress is hitting stores soon, so keep your eyes peeled for this on-trend and on-price piece.

Next up is this spotty top from Topshop, which is one of today’s easiest pieces to transition into your wardrobe. The fun half and half print adds to the whimsical polka dot vibe, but this is still a simple top in essence. When teamed with skinny jeans, black or otherwise, this top is going to stand alone amazingly, but can be just as striking when teamed with clashing bottoms. A pair of floral or printed trousers will create a real bold statement if you’re brave enough to rock both patterns at once. This top comes in at £32, so if you want to dip your toe into the trend, this is the best way to go.

If you’re really feeling the nineties revival that’s happening at the moment, then this backpack should be the first thing on your wishlist. At £34, it’s by no means the cheapest out there, but it certainly incorporates a fair few trends in one. This Topshop bag is the perfect summer companion, when you just want to throw your day’s needs in one bag and don’t want to have to think about accessories. It’s great for the beach, but just as handy for city living too, so if you’re into easy-chic, then this is the go-to striped piece for you.

This next shift style dress is great for summer, as the relaxed fit means you’ll be super cool, no matter what temperature it is. The fun print is halved, so it won’t overwhelm your shape, and this is going to be a super simple piece to style, especially when you’re in a hurry. All you need is a pair of sandals and your biggest sunnies and you’re ready to go with this piece, as the more you add, the more you take away from the striking print. Fold it up, pack it in your case and you’re holiday set. Just like that. You can pick this shift up from Topshop for £42.

Today’s penultimate piece is slightly more formal than the other two dresses featured, and is great for any events or special occasions you have coming up. The more structured shape is super flattering, and the nipped in waist will give everyone the hourglass figure they crave. Teamed with some summery sandals and supersized sunnies, this will take city-chic to the max, but with a colourful, or cutesy necklace tucked under the collar and a pair of flats, this can instantly be made more sweet and picnic-friendly. You can pick up this versatile piece from Love at Topshop for £34.

Finally today is a Romwe piece which has completely stolen my heart. This collarless shirt is a great, lightweight spring/summer piece and there’s not a necklace on earth that I can’t imagine looking amazing over this. The dual pockets add extra interest against the large polka dot print, and this is going to look just as gorgeous thrown over jeans as it is tucked into both plain and patterned skirts. The material folds up to almost nothing, so this is a great piece to take away with you, whether you’re heading off on a city break, or to soak up the sun and want to use this as a beach cover up. At £18.73 this is the cheapest of today’s pieces, and it may just be my favourite!
