Videos of the Week 03/06/12

Boy am I glad to be back indoors after a ridiculously rainy day out watching the jubilee river pageant. It’s been a wonderfully patriotic week here in Britain and being as a lot of you won’t be in work tomorrow I hope you’ve got the heating on, your feet up and a cup of tea on the go. Today I have four great videos for you; two movie trailers, an insider fashion snippet and a great acoustic music video that has been on repeat in my house for the past week. Let’s get started with number one.

First up it’s a trailer that you’ll have no doubt seen everywhere lately as it’s caused quite a buzz, it’s the film trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Ever since I heard this was being made, I went into overdrive trying to find out about pretty much everything regarding the film. Baz Luhrmann is one of my favourite directors of all time, and who can resist the charms of leading man Leonardo Di Caprio? It’ll be amazing to see Baz working with Leo again, because we all loved Romeo & Juliet didn’t we!? The other reason I’m obsessing over this, aside from the astounding cinematography and soundtrack, is that incredible ’20s style that this movie is championing. Think glitz, glamour, short ‘dos and Charleston-worthy fabulous flapper dresses. Swoon.

Secondly today it’s a video I fell in love with literally seconds in. It’s a video following French fashion blogger Garance Dore around Tokyo with the aim of customising a gorgeous Dior bag. I utterly love Garance, and have been a follower of her blog for a long time. You may remember me posting some of her fabulous Paris Fashion Week videos up here earlier in the year, but this time it’s all about Tokyo. Garance sets about exploring Tokyo and picking up accessories for her Lady Dior bag and having it personalised as she travels around. I love this way of showing the many sides of the city and also showcasing typical Japanese crafts and cultural norms within a fashion video. I can’t get enough of this, well done Garance.

Next up it’s an acoustic music video from Marina and the Diamonds. If you saw my May Favourites, (click here for that) you’ll know that Marina’s album Electra Heart was something I fell in love with last month and haven’t stopped listening to since. Her track ‘Lies’ is one of my favourite songs from the album and when I came across this acoustic version on Youtube the other day I couldn’t get over how beautiful it is! The video style is gorgeous, I love the styling of both Marina and the studio, it just makes for an overall more interesting visual experience as well as an audio one. If you love this as much as me, there’s a fair chance that the other acoustic tracks will also float your boat, album tracks Starring Role and Homewrecker are also gorgeous done acoustically and single Primadonna sounds just as magical. Just click the track names to visit the other videos.

Finally it’s another trailer, this time for the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On The Road. Aside from the pretty gorgeous Garrett Hedlund, I’m looking forward to seeing Kristen Stewart sink her teeth into a somewhat gritty role as Marylou. While I’m sceptical as to whether they’ll live up to the literary classic, it still looks like it’ll be an interesting film in its own right. I can’t wait to see how they capture the spirit of the beat generation and I’m hoping the film will retain the essence of the book even if they don’t stick to the story word for word. Enjoy!

That’s it for today folks, I’m off to see Prometheus tonight, so I’ll be sure to let you know what I think of it! What videos have you been loving this week, and do you have any suggestions for me? Let me know by leaving me a comment or tweeting me @MillieDelacoe. Until next time…
