There’s nothing quite like a good boot sale, especially when the sun graces us with its presence. Last weekend my boyfriend and I went to the bi-annual Classic Car Boot Sale at Southbank, and luckily the weather was on our side. It was a fantastical affair, everyone was dressed up to the nines, there was more bric-a-brac than you could shake a stick at, and the bar was in a double decker bus. What could be better on a Saturday, in the shade of the London Eye?
The purpose of the Classic Car Boot Sale is to give the traditional less-than-glam car boot sale a vintage makeover. Car boots are awesome, and I love routing around in other people’s unwanted goods, but this event had a little more je ne sais quoi. You’d be hard pressed to find something for under a few pounds here, bargain hunting was not the main theme, but it didn’t need to be. If you love good quality vintage items and are prepared to pay for them, this is definitely the event for you. Also, if you’re a homeowner looking to go more individual and less Ikea, this is 100% the place you’re going to find ‘wow’ home pieces.
I bought a couple of small pieces that will be coming up in a thrift haul soon, but I nearly came away with a Chevy truck and Airstream caravan after falling head over heels in love with them. There were a tonne of gorgeous cars there for auto buffs, my boyfriend was in his element and it wasn’t just cars either. Bikers turned up in their droves, sporting some amazing leather gear that I was LOVING and customised bikes. It was just a really great place to browse and snap away, particularly for gaining both fashion and home inspiration.
I thought I’d show you guys what I wore for the day, as the dress is actually a new acquisition! The lovely guys at iKrush sent me this velvet leopard dress which was PERFECT for the event. I punked it up with my Dr Martens Clemency boots (via Office) and threw over my Mango biker for extra edge. To play up the retro theme, I went for this Forever 21 necklace which my boyfriend bought me for Christmas, and my fabulous cat eye glasses that were sent to me a little while back by Dresslink (you can get them here for just over $2!) Bargain!
That’s it for today’s post, I hope you enjoyed it, let me know if you love boot sale-ing too, leave me a comment or tweet me @MillieDelacoe. Stay tuned for my vlog of the event which will be up on Sunday, and I’ll see you soon. Until next time…
