Happy Monday, welcome to today’s post. On Wednesday last week I was lucky enough to be invited along to New Look’s Spring Summer press day, along with my friend Jade from J’adore Jade, and I thought it’d be fun to share the experience with you guys. I photographed and filmed the event, and loved rifling through all the new clothes for next season. There were pastels galore, florals, grungy looks, a bit of tropical and a whole section dedicated to more boho, geo-traveller type designs. There were a fair few things I wanted to take home then and there, like the myriad of futuristic block heels that were dotted around the place, and the acid wash denim pieces for grungy looks.
The SS14 collection is well thought out, with something for absolutely everyone. On entering Jade and I (as monochrome enthusiasts) ran straight for the black and white clothing rail ahead of us and got browsing. The accompanying lookbook we were given splits the looks into California Dreaming, Tomorrow’s Yesterday, Seattle Grunge and Neon Bloom. Seattle Grunge is right up my street, with acid wash, ditsy prints, more subdued hues and strappy dresses, denim jackets, and pops of pink. California Dreaming is exactly as you’d expect, Jade very rightly described it as ‘very Nicole Richie’. It’s completely boho, a Coachella-ready collection with tribal elements, paisley, and earthy tones.
Tomorrow’s Yesterday is the monochrome, more graphic collection than the others. It incorporates polka dot, classic stripes and shift dresses with loose fitting separates. There’s a definite ’60s lean with some of the pieces, it’s very retro, with a modern spin. Finally, Neon Bloom is hard to miss, and was a very photogenic section of the press event. Think floral, think glow-stick, mix them together and you get uber modern pieces that still epitomise the summer season, but bring it right up to date. This collection is the most catwalk inspired, with great original pieces you might just think came off the runway.
Accessories are where the big guns definitely came out, the California Dreaming theme comes into play massively in the jewellery with big statement, tribal necklaces a key look. The sunglasses are amazing too, with super modern, mirrored and structured designs that take futuristic to another level. Finally, the shoes are out there, with big wedges, black and white block designs, and on-trend ankle boots in contrasting colours, that are bound to look bad-ass with everything else in the collection. The shoes were my favourite part!
Stay tuned for New Look’s SS14 collection hitting stores early next year, it’s well worth checking out. I’ll be going in straight away for the block wedges and monochrome separates, and at New Look prices it’s definitely not going to break the bank to give your wardrobe an update. Don’t forget to check out the video for more insight into the event and a closer look at the collections, and I’ll see you soon! You can also check out more on the New Look site or instore. Until next time…
