Get the Look: Sci-Fi (4 Under £50)

The nineties are having a huge fashion revival at the moment, and while the grungier trends are right up my street, there’s also a spot of sci-fi working its way back into fashion. Remember the space age Spice Girls boots we were rocking back then, the tin-foil metallics and shiny fabrics that were signalling the start of the Millenium, and the future? Well, those metallics and super sci-fi cuts are back, and I’m embracing this trend with open arms. Why? It’s the perfect way to stay chic while feeling like your fave sci-fi movie character, and of course the UK clearly isn’t ready for pastel and uber girly trends yet…it’s just too damn cold!

This gorgeous £39 silver tea dress from Oh My Love at Topshop is the perfect dress for any upcoming events you might have. Its shape is feminine, but the silver metallic and shimmery fabric make this super sci-fi too. To bring in spring, use the higher neckline to show off a colour-pop or bejwelled necklace to up the opulence. To really up the sci-fi ante stick to jewellery that’s quite angular and minimal.

This next piece is great for adding a little sci-fi into an otherwise neutral wardrobe. If you’re a little apprehensive, this meemee.com top will just add enough space age to your ensemble, without overdoing it. Team this with your favourite black skinnies and layer over with an open chunky cardigan to play this down during the cold weather, or really stand out by teaming it with printed trousers when the weather warms up. The texture of this top will really bring life to a monochrome outfit, and for £16 it’s a small price to pay when there are so many possible looks to team it with.

Today’s third piece transcends two key trends for spring; sci-fi and sports luxe. Not many dresses have Fifth Element style credentials while being both office and fashion friendly. But this dress seems to have it all. The clean lines and sporty shape are bang on-trend, whilst the neutral tones mean it’s not going to overwhelm and can easily be dressed down as well as up. The attention to detail on this piece is worth every penny of the £46 it costs, and the back is just as impressive as the front panels. This is definitely out-of-this-world rather than over-the-top so work a little outer space into your everyday by picking up this Topshop piece now.

Today’s final piece may actually be my favourite of all four, and it’s also an absolute bargain. For just £22 you can take home this amazing foil style tee dress from meemee.com. This silver dress differs from the first in that it’s easier to dress down and personally I’d rock this in the day rather than at night. It’s a great statement piece for this transitional weather we’re having, and will look just as awesome when teamed with black opaques as it will with bare legs when the weather warms up. Wear it with a chunky statement necklace to really up the fashion ante, and team it with boots now and some gorgeous summer sandals when the sun finally arrives. The simple tee shape makes this easy to style as you can always belt it to create a completely different look when the mood takes you. It’s as easy as that.

That’s it for today’s get the look post, I hope it’ll help you work the latest trends while keeping some spare change in your pocket!
