The moment I saw the backstage footage of Phillip’s Lim’s latest NYFW show, I knew I had to give his dual toned nails a go. Despite all the trends that could be interpreted from the SS13 shows, this is the one I tried first, and one that I absolutely cannot get enough of. The Phillip Lim models all sported dual toned nude nails that are just as perfect for autumn/winter as spring/summer, so it’s definitely a trend you don’t have to wait to sport. The nails were painted using grey and nude Essie polishes, but I found some great dupes at home which did the job perfectly. Let’s check out the real Phillip Lim nails before we get started.
As you can see from the photos, the Phillip Lim models don’t have particularly long nails, so this is a trend you can try no matter what length nails you have. I love the simplicity of this manicure, the dual stripes give an air of sophistication, but there’s no taping or fancy nail art going on here, just carefully applied coats of polish. I gave this a go at home and opted for H&M’s Nerd, which I posted about last week (click here for that post) and George at Asda’s Werewolf which is only £1 and a great dupe for Chanel’s Particuliere, you can get it here. These are both polishes that I’d recommend anyway, but being able to wear them together in this way makes them even more fabulous.
I started by applying the lighter colour as you can always go over it with the darker one if you make a mistake. Start by painting down one side of the nail carefully and waiting for it to dry before applying another coat of the same colour, then simply paint the other side with the other colour, it’s that easy.
As I said, I adore this nail look and will definitely be trying it out in future with other colours too! Will you give this a go though? I’d love to know if you try it so leave me a comment or tweet me a picture of your version @MillieDelacoe. Until next time…
