Hello and welcome to this month’s dates post. I feel like I’m constantly saying this, but I genuinely cannot believe how quickly last month came and went, it’ll be autumn again before we know it. Of course the major event of this month is already in full swing, the Olympics. Despite my initial disinterest, Olympic fever seems to have grasped me and to be honest it’s pretty difficult to avoid the Team GB buzz here in London, so I’m embracing it! Olympics aside there are plenty of other great events going on throughout this month, so let’s get started!
5th August (Sunday)
50th Anniversary of Marilyn’s Death
Morbid as it may sound, this month we can pay tribute to undoubtedly one of the most famous women who ever walked the planet. There’s no one I love like Marilyn and her amazing style continues to influence the fashion world to this day. There’s bound to be an array of fabulous documentaries on the Hollywood star to coincide with the anniversary and of course I’ll be remembering Marilyn with a special photo inspiration post on the 5th too so watch out for that.
12th August (Sunday)
Olympic Closing Ceremony
Yes that’s right, the Olympics is not on forever guys, London will say goodbye to Olympic fever on the 12th august when the closing ceremony will be televised for the world to see. Whether it will be as amazing as the opening ceremony is yet to be seen, but I’m sure it’ll be one not to be missed and of course I’ll be live tweeting throughout the event so you can always follow me @MillieDelacoe on twitter too.
Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House
Nothing says summer in the city quite like the outdoor movie experience at Somerset House. This year there’ll be the chance to see movies before all your mates too with On The Road, Lawless and The Watch all offering a ‘People’s Premiere’ for the Somerset House audience. If you fancy watching both new and classic movies with a picnic, blankets and an incredible atmosphere then this is a cinematic experience for you. My top picks are On The Road, Drive (with the amazing Ryan Gosling) and a chance to see the ever-incredible Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom again, because we don’t watch it enough at Christmas time do we?! 26th & 27th August (Sunday & Monday)
Notting Hill Carnival
It wouldn’t be the end of August without the legendary Notting Hill Carnival and it’s the perfect way to ‘end’ the summer on a high note. The bank holiday weekend in August has played host to this amazingly colourful carnival since 1966 and the endless parades of dancers, musicians and costumes have to be seen to be believed. The atmosphere in West London during the carnival is fantastic and the streets of Notting Hill become party central for anyone and everyone who wants to get involved, it’s completely free so don’t miss out! To learn more about the carnival visit the official website by clicking here.
That’s it for this month’s date post, check back on the 1st September for the exciting dates you need to know for next month, you won’t want to miss out! Leave me a comment letting me know what you’re up to this month or tweet me @MillieDelacoe, I’d love to know. Until next time…
