Get the Look: Studs + Spikes on the High Street (from £3.99!)

It’s time to look sharp (pun totally intended) as today it’s all about spikes and studs here on the blog. Yesterday I posted a whole lookbook dedicated to the stud and spike trend that’s taking the fashion world by storm, (click here to see that) and today I’m going to show you some of the key pieces for the look, that are all from our great British high street and online retailers. Ever on-trend high street store Zara is one of the biggest advocates of the spiked/studded trend and a swift browse of their window display will fill you with inspiration, but it doesn’t end there. Whether you want to embrace the trend fully or just dip your toe into it with accessories, I’ll take you through these incredible yet affordable pieces, starting with a tiny investment at just £3.99 from New Look!

This New Look spiked bracelet literally screamed at me through the shop’s doors on a recent shopping trip. On walking past I spotted this on a display and ran to get it without even looking at the tag. I couldn’t believe it when I got it to the till and paid a lowly £3.99 for it, I’ve seen similar bracelets for so much more in other high street stores. Although this doesn’t feel the most luxe, being made of plastic and bound with elastic, it’s not too ‘shiny’ and therefore looks more expensive than the £3.99 price tag when it’s on. I’m going to enjoy stacking this with other bracelets and my faithful watch, but it’s a great piece to team with your more girly outfits to add a tough girl edge, especially if you’re not too sure if spikes are for you!

One of the more wearable ways to work spikes into your daily outfit is by adding a spiked necklace, even to a simple jeans and tee combo. Last week I ordered this fab necklace from ASOS which is now part of their huge sale. At £12.50 it’s affordable yet still super chic, and it even has skulls inbetween each spike, for extra punk rock punch! The spikes are dipped and add even more detail and interest and if tribal looks are up your street, this definitely has that ‘global traveller’ vibe going on too. Two trends in one!

Shorts are always a necessity for summer, so it makes sense to make yours stand out. These gorgeous Matalan shorts perfectly epitomise the grungy trend for me, I’d team them with a sloppy tee and scuffed up ankle boots for that lazy summer look. At £18 they’re extremely well priced seeing as they’re denim, spiked and seriously on-trend. Matalan aren’t always my go-to brand for edgy, off-beat pieces but they’ve really knocked it out of the park with these shorts, stay tuned for them to hit stores really soon, they’re sure to fly off the shelves.

Next up today is this stunning shirt from online retailer Boohoo.com, you can always count on Boohoo for great on-trend pieces at a really low price, and this shirt is no exception. After spotting this bad boy on the Look website this week, I instantly snapped it up and can’t get over how perfect it is. In theory it’s very simple, a crisp white shirt but with gold spikes on the cuffs and collar. Tucked into skirts this is going to instantly toughen up an outfit this summer, but I can’t wait to wear this under my favourite winter jumpers with the collar and cuffs out for extra drama, be it in the office or just out and about in the cold weather. For £20 you can’t go far wrong with this, and I think it’s extremely versatile for such a dramatic piece.

Slightly higher up the price scale, are two Zara pieces, the first being this incredible pair of studded boots that come in at £69.99. In a lovely nude, neutral shade these will see you through this unpredictable ‘summer’ we’re having right now through to winter too. The boots compared to the other pieces today are slightly less punky and more wearable, but they’re still edgier than your average ankle boots. I love these for teaming with cutesy dresses and of course in winter with thick tights, skirts and jumpers.

Lastly it’s a phenomenal, downright swoon-worthy jacket, also from Zara that is set to be one of this season’s must-have high street pieces. At £169.99 it’s not cheap, but for a gorgeously made leather jacket with that incredible studding, it’s a great investment, and we all know leather jackets don’t go out of style. This is one jacket you’ll be loving season, after season, after season. Money well spent methinks.

That’s it for today’s get the look post, I hope it’ll help you get your hands on some on-trend pieces for less! Let me know if you pick up any of these and how you’d style them by leaving me a comment or tweeting me @MillieDelacoe. Until next time…
