My Glossybox arrived! If you follow me on Twitter you’ll have seen that I narrowly missed my Glossybox when they tried to deliver it on Tuesday and then yesterday they didn’t bring it til gone 5 and I was already half way out of the door. So, now my Glossybox and I are finally in the same place and it’s time for me to tell you what I got and what I thought of it.
This month it’s all about ‘sexy summer style’ and all the contents are aimed at getting you summer ready. I’m already going to put it out there: this is my favourite box to date. It could just be the particular contents I received, but this month I really can see myself trying out absolutely everything and loving a few things here.
The first thing I received was an exclusive Glossybox pro beauty brush which is a nice little addition to my make up kit. It’s not the most revolutionary brush, but it is a nice fluffy, goat hair brush for blush and bronzer. I used it this morning in conjunction with the bronzer I received in my box (coming up soon) and it did the job.
The second thing I received was an Yves Rocher France mini mascara named Sexy Pulp which is supposed to volumise your lashes. Now, I like to think of myself as quite the mascara connoisseur, as being a natural blonde (ok, not as bright as Nice ‘n Easy allows) but still, I also have the lashes to go with it. That means that since my teens I’ve tried out a lot of mascaras that will coat my blonde lashes, volumise and lengthen them. This mascara was sadly lacking for me. I do use a few coats, and this wasn’t very ‘buildable’. It is very good at separating the lashes, but it doesn’t allow you to create real volume, and compared to my holy grail mascara; Soap & Glory’s Thick & Fast, it really doesn’t live up to the volume claims for me. If you’re looking for a mascara that will really give you ‘wow’ lashes, go with Soap & Glory, I have a whole review of it here.
The third product I received was a BM Beauty bronzer named ‘Summer Warmth’. I’ve never really been one for bronzer as I’m always a little afraid of how dark it will make me look, or ‘orange’ for that matter. I also don’t want to look like a disco ball! Despite these reservations, I gave this a go and oh my, I love it. It is shimmery, but not so shimmery that it looks unatural, it’s more of a summer, ‘I caught the sun today’ glow. I applied it with the Glossybox brush, and contoured with it and brought it up to my temples a little, just where the sun would naturally catch my face, and it does look lovely. I’m very pale, but this just gives me that ‘been in the sun’ look and it doesn’t look like I’ve piled a load of make up on, which was my fear. The only bad side is the tester pot it comes in, as it’s a loose bronzer it’s not exactly easy to minimise mess and fallout with. I ended up dispensing a tiny amount on the back of my hand and then working from there, a teeny tiny bit really does go a long way though.
The fourth product I received was a set of three Dermologica minis named Clean Start. Now Dermologica is a trustworthy name in the beauty world and comes highly recommended, so when I saw these in my box I couldn’t wait to give them a go. The set consists of a cleanser, a toner and a moisturiser and is recommended to be used twice a day. When I woke up this morning I went straight to the bathroom to give these a go, and while I don’t feel a difference yet, the cleanser did leave my skin feeling fresh, it lathers up wonderfully and the slight scent is really refreshing. The toner is a spray which you mist the face with and it was a nice step that I haven’t previously had in my skincare regimen. I applied the moisturiser right before my make up, and it made a great base for my make up. Overall I’m satisfied with the set and can’t wait to see some more long term improvement as I continue to use them. My skin has been particularly troublesome lately so let’s see if Dermologica can make the change.
The last product I received was a small set of testers of Vichy’s Dermablend Ultra Foundation Cream Stick. I’ve never used a cream foundation before as I prefer a light liquid consistency, and light to medium coverage, but I thought I’d give this a go this morning anyway. The colour ‘porcelain’ included in the pack was the perfect shade for me so I decided to use that. The product is very thick and I found that I had to warm it between my fingers first so that it was blendable. I prefer this foundation after it has dried down, as at first it was a little cakey, but it has been a few hours now since I applied it, and it looks more natural. I don’t think that for people like me this is the best foundation as I have normal to dry skin, and this does accentuate my dry patches. I don’t believe that it claims to be transfer free, however it doesn’t feel ‘wet’ on the skin, nor does it transfer onto fingers at a touch. It has positives and negatives for me, for someone with normal to oily skin this would probably be brilliant. If you like heavier coverage, a matte finish and a foundation that’s going to last you all day, I’d say this is good for you, but only if you don’t have dry skin, at all, because even a little dryness will show up massively with this.
N.B I think this would be a better concealer if I’m honest as it did a brilliant job of concealing my dark circles (an area I don’t get dry patches). But being as it’s supposed to be made to cover imperfections, I found that it just made them look worse.
Overall this was my favourite box so far: I love the three step Dermologica set and am looking forward to seeing what results I can get from that, the bronzer is a new favourite and has changed my thoughts about bronzer altogether, the brush is a good all round addition to my kit, and although I won’t be repurchasing the mascara or the cream foundation it’s always good to try out new things. Don’t forget I’ll be coming back to you in two weeks with an indepth review to let you know how I’ve been getting on with the products, so check back then!
What did you get in your Glossybox, and what are you loving/hating? Have you tried any of the products I’m testing out at the moment? Let me know by leaving me a comment or tweeting me @MillieDelacoe. Until next time..
