Mad Men Style: A ’60s Home Fix for Under £5!

If there’s an interior design look I covet, it’s ’50s and ’60s textiles prints and ultra modern, even space age looking furniture. With Mad Men back on our screens next week it’s only right that we should want to chic up our space in homage to the amazing show. With one little touch you can give your room a Mad Men injection even if like me, you don’t have the space age furniture you’d love to have. Browsing furniture stores over the past few weeks has sent me into a ’50s/’60s overload as it seems all the big furniture chains are trying to recreate the chic style of the Mad Men era. These are just some of the interiors images I’ve been loving the past few weeks.

With super high price tags for the smallest features, the above looks aren’t always attainable to us mere mortals. Enter Primark, constant saviour from paying a month’s rent for one item. Their homeware section had never been a particular must-visit destination for me, but now that’s all changed. For just £4 I picked up this fabulously vintage-looking printed cushion that wouldn’t look out of place on Don Draper’s couch and I’m in love with it. I’ve seen so many cushions just like this these past few weeks, but starting from triple the price and I can’t believe I found one so stylish for under £5!

It might not instantly transform your room into one of the rooms above, but this cushion is a step in the right direction to updating what you’ve got and saving cash on the way. Being grey, white and a light green I would consider this quite a neutral cushion and great for throwing on a sofa or armchair in any room. Ideally I’d have a completely ’60s style apartment to pop it in, but for now I’m content with it on my blue sofa, adding a bit of drama ready for the series premiere of Mad Men.
